Mailboxes

Cirrux gives you complete flexibility over how you receive email. Add multiple domains, create unlimited aliases on your own domains, and use advanced addressing features to organize your inbox.

Features

Multiple domains#

Add as many domains as you like to your workspace. Each domain can have its own set of mailboxes and addresses. Simply verify ownership of your domain through DNS, and you can start receiving email.

Workspace admins manage domains under Domains at admin.cirrux.info, or under Settings → Domains in Cirrux Mail.

Aliases#

Link multiple email addresses to a single mailbox. All emails sent to any of your aliases will arrive in the same inbox. This is useful for having different addresses for different purposes, like contact@ and hello@ both going to the same place.

Add addresses under Settings → Mailboxes: pick the mailbox and click Create address. By default only workspace admins can add or remove addresses. Admins can also do this from Users at admin.cirrux.info.

Catch-all#

Enable catch-all on a domain to receive emails sent to any address at that domain, even if no specific mailbox or alias exists. This ensures you never miss an email because of a typo or an address you forgot to set up.

A catch-all sends this mail to one mailbox you choose. Open the domain under Domains (at admin.cirrux.info or in Cirrux Mail’s settings), click the three dots menu and choose Configure catch all mailbox.

Each address that receives mail through the catch-all is added to that mailbox automatically, so you can see which addresses are in use. Deactivate one to stop accepting mail for it.

Plus addressing#

Use plus addressing to create unlimited variations of your email address on the fly. For example, if your address is rick@example.com, emails to rick+newsletters@example.com or rick+shopping@example.com will all arrive in your inbox. Use this to filter incoming mail or track where your address was shared.

This is enabled automatically for all mailboxes.

Subdomain addressing#

Just like plus addressing, you can also use subdomains to receive email. Emails sent to rick@anything.example.com will be delivered to rick@example.com. This gives you another way to organize and filter your incoming mail.

This works only for custom domains, and requires a wildcard MX record (e.g. *.example.com) to be configured in your DNS.

Email filters#

Automatically organize incoming emails with filter rules. Create conditions based on sender, recipient, subject, message content, contacts, or whether a message is a newsletter, and have Cirrux label, flag, archive, forward or delete matching emails.

Each filter can combine multiple conditions using “all conditions” (AND) or “any condition” (OR) logic. Available actions are skip inbox, auto-archive after a month, mark as read, flag, apply a label, delete (move to trash), destroy (delete permanently), forward, and never mark as spam.

You can also filter based on your contacts. Use the from contact condition to match emails from people in your address book, or from contact group to match emails from members of a specific contact group. This makes it easy to, for example, automatically label all emails from clients or skip the inbox for messages from people you don’t know.

Manage your email filters from Settings → Mailboxes, then select a mailbox and open the Filters tab.

Filters don’t run on emails classified as spam. Messages that land in Junk bypass your filter rules so they stay out of the way until you review them. The one exception is a filter with the never mark as spam action: when it matches a message rated as spam, Cirrux delivers it as normal mail and your filters apply as usual. It can’t rescue mail from a sender on your block list.

Forwarding

Forward emails to another address#

You can forward emails from your Cirrux mailbox to any external email address. Forwarding is set up using email filters, which gives you full control over exactly which emails get forwarded and where.

First add the address you want to forward to on the mailbox’s Forwarding tab. Cirrux sends a verification email to that address, and forwarding only starts once it’s verified.

To forward all incoming emails, create a filter without any conditions and add the Forward action with your verified address. You can also combine filter conditions to forward only certain emails. For example, forward emails from a specific sender or with a certain subject to one address, and emails matching different criteria to another.

There’s no limit on the number of forwarding rules you can set up. You can forward different types of emails to different addresses, or even forward the same emails to multiple destinations.

Set up forwarding from Settings → Mailboxes: select a mailbox, add the address on the Forwarding tab, then create the filter on the Filters tab. Spam is never forwarded.
